Cumberland - September 15th

On Tuesday we had a huge win over Cumberland. Since we had beat Cumberland earlier in the season we knew that winning was within our reach, but we knew that we would need to work hard to attain that goal. We started off a little cold and lost game one 14-25. In game two we came out strong though and took an early lead of 8-1. We kept that momentum going to win 25-17. By game three we were tired and playing in a warm gym. We started out quiet and rallied back, but couldn't quite catch completely up. We lost game three 19-25. In game four we played tough. It was back and forth the entire game. As coaches we were very impressed with how our players communicated, worked together, and completed each pass, set, and hit. We won this game 25-23. This was our first time playing all five matches and we were very tired. A few players really stepped up just when we needed them. That is huge in volleyball when you greatly depend on the other players on and off the court. We really came together and won the final game 15-13 to win the match. Our girls jumped off the bench with excitement. It was a very proud moment as a coach. Meagan VanderHeyden and Danika McCumber led us in serves for the match with 50 serves and only 6 errors combined. Jenna Curtis and Danika McCumber led us in hits with 13 kills combined.

Our JV and C-team had some rough moments with serving, but also played tough games. JV lost their match in two tough games 23-25 and 14-25. C-team also lost their match in some very close games, 24-26 and 21-25. We will continue to work on perfecting our skills and working as a team unit.

Coming off a win, we felt we were ready to compete against Northwestern. We started slow, falling behind 3-8 in game one. Hannah Kastner started as our setter and did a phenomenal job. We rallied and battled but couldn’t quick catch up. We ended up losing game one 18-25. We made a few adjustments, but couldn’t find our routine, losing game two 8-25. In game three Hannah Kastner, Topanga Peterson, and Kayla Boutwell stepped back in as leaders on the court. As a team we couldn’t get as many hits in as we needed and our passes were just a little off. We ended up losing game three in a tough game, 16-25. Carson Johannes led us in match serves with 11 and no errors. Meagan VanderHeyden led us in hits with 13 attempts for the match.

JV played hard, but lost their match 19-25, 11-25, and 24-26. Cteam also battled to win their match 7-25, 26-24, and 15-8. Congratulations C-team!

It was Parent’s night. We would like to say a HUGE thank you to our parents who support us all season long. You are our biggest fans. Thank you!
